Around 4.35m people in the UK wild swim every year, water safety forms part of our Community Safety Plan.
The Royal Life Saving Society UK’s Drowning Prevention Week is an annual, water safety campaign designed to educate children and young adults in water safety and lifesaving skills. Royal Life Saving Society UK’s Drowning Prevention Week
MyActive are supporting the campaign by:
- Offering annual water safety talks to all first schools in the Moorlands and High Peak
- Extending this offer to middle schools across the Moorlands, bringing this important message to pupils up to the age of 13yrs
- Promoting the recently introduced “Swim Smart. Stay Safe” modules to our swimming lesson programme, which currently reaches 1800 children enrolled. They expect this to be more than 3000 children once MyActive Leek opens in August. These additional modules teach water safety skills including water safety awareness, safe entry and exit, basic survival skills (float to survive) and what to do in an emergency situation.
The RNLI have launched their Float to Live Campaign which offers useful advice to everyone, however they use the water. For more information visit RNLI.org/Float
